Scott Lefurgy is a versatile lyric baritone equally at home on the operatic and concert stages.
His opera credits include Germont (La Traviata), Silvio (Pagliacci), Marcello (La Boheme), Valentin (Faust), Colonel Blagden (Claudia Legare), Marco (Gianni Schicchi), Grosvenor (Patience), and Samuel (Pirates of Penzance). His solo oratorio credits include the Requiems of Duruflé, Fauré, and Howells; Mass in G (Schubert); Messiah (Handel); and Mass in G Minor (Vaughan Williams). He has performed roles with Dicapo Opera Theater, Regina Opera, the Roman Borgman Opera Theatre, La Forza dell'Opera, Pacific Opera, University of Michigan Opera Theater, and at Interlochen. He has also been a featured soloist with the Staten Island Philharmonic, the Clarion Choir, the St. James' Compostela Choir of New York City, the Irvington Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club, and the Detroit Oratorio Society. He appears with the Clarion Choir on their 2017 GRAMMY-nominated CD Steinberg: Passion Week (Naxos).
Scott studied music at the University of Michigan, where he earned a dual-degree in Voice Performance (Artist-and-Scholar Honors Program) and Chemistry (summa cum laude). He also holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Columbia University and is presently an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Hofstra University, where he regularly sings for his students.
